Versatility

Shirt: Madewell. Skirt: PacSun. Shoes: Birkenstock. Purse: Kate Spade. Lips: Bite Beauty.

Welcome back! If you’ve been following my blog (or instagram), you may notice some similar pieces in the above outfit. For those that haven’t click here and here for reference. Because I’ve “recycled” a lot of these pieces, today’s post is all about versatility.

Versatility, to me, is key in a wardrobe. Of course, I’m as susceptible as the next person when it comes to buying those statement pieces that just scream “pick me” at  the mall. However, I must admit that time and time again I find myself going for the same key pieces in my closet.

Some people here the word “versatile” and immediately shy away thinking it synonymous with “boring” or “unexciting.” This is absolutely NOT the case. To prove my point, we’ll start with my jean skirt. Slowly, the jean skirt has been making a major come back starting with a button down version and moving on to a distressed style like mine. This skirt is completely on trend (and completely cute, if I do say so myself), and completely versatile. Comparing this outfit to the outfit in my post Vacay Vibes, they have a completely different feel between the two. One is a little more polished and girly, while the other is quite laid-back. When I saw this skirt I knew that the styling possibilities were endless.

Moving on to my shirt. I’ve said it before and I will say it again; nothing beats a classic, white t-shirt. No matter the style (I prefer a looser, v-neck version), white t-shirts work anytime. Keep it classic with denim like I did or mix it up and wear it under a slip dress (really on trend right now) or even layered under a jacket/cardigan. Honestly, you can’t go wrong, which makes the white t-shirt a staple in my wardrobe.

As you can see, I’m also re-wearing my new double buckle belt. This is another example of versatile, yet trendy pieces. Obviously I don’t need to explain the usefulness of a belt, but I like that this one is slightly more interesting than your every day version. I’m seeing double buckle belts everywhere right now with so many different outfits and styles, so I promise you won’t regret making this purchase.

Finally, if I haven’t said this yet, go buy a pair of Birkenstocks. GO NOW! I have never worn a comfier pair of shoes. They’re perfect for wearing to class or heading out the door for errands. Mark my words, once you go Birk, you never go back!

Ending my little rant on versatility, I wanted to talk about my lip color. In the pictures it’s coming out sort of red, but it’s actually called Tangerine and creates a pinky-orange color. I bought this last year as part of a small lip duo (love the other color, Ligonberry, too!) in the line leading to the cash register to Sephora. Seriously, that aisle is evil, always getting me to buy things I didn’t even know existed, but suddenly have to have. Anyway, the lip color is by Bite Beauty and it was actually a limited addition, but if you click my link under the pictures, I found it on Amazon for those who are interested. I haven’t bought any other products from Bite, but I should really change that because I love the duo so much!

Swim suit: Nordstrom. Sunglasses: Nordstrom.

The summer trend I was both in love with and fearful of would definitely have been the one piece bathing suit. I honestly can’t even remember the last time I owned a one piece bathing suit, I’ve always been strictly a bikini girl. That being said, I feel like I was bombarded by photos from blogs, magazines and instagram accounts of cute one piece bathing suits. By the time May hit, I knew that I was going to try and jump aboard that trend.

After weeks and weeks of looking for the perfect one piece, I saw this adorable white one online at Nordstrom. Unlike some one pieces, this white version (I think it’s only left in black or red, but both are so cute!) by Becca still seems fun and not frumpy which I was initially fearing. The mesh detailing and plunging neckline make this one piece anything but boring.

After purchasing this one piece, I was asked by lingerie and swimwear company, Adore me, to join their campaign in spreading one piece love. Given that I had already fallen in love with mine and was planning on sharing anyway, I thought why not? I definitely wanted to share my thoughts.

Given that I was wearing my swim suit to the beach, I preferred a no fuss look. In my opinion, the only accessories you need are a cute beach bag and some sunnies! My sunglasses are also from Nordstrom and only cost $12! Although I couldn’t find my exact pair, there are tons of other cute ones. My philosophy is that the beach is the perfect time to try out fun sunglass trends and not break the bank. I’m not going to bring my designer glasses just to mess them up with a combo of sea water, sand and sunscreen. Spending $12 on trendy glasses that may get ruined is the perfect alternative.

If I haven’t convinced you that one pieces are a must, check out Adore Me’s instagram for some inspiration by the company and other bloggers!

I hope you enjoyed the post, and don’t forget to give me a follow on Bloglovin’!

Vacay Vibes

Vacay Vibes

Top: South Moon Under. Skirt: PacSun. Belt: PacSun. Shoes: Steve Madden. Purse: Kate Spade.

Hello from the beach! It’s been awhile since I’ve posted, so I can’t wait to be sharing a lot of new content I’ll be creating this week on vacation. The look above is one that I’m so excited to be sharing with you as most of it was brand new!

First, I want to start off with the top. How cute is it?! Typically, I shy away from bold prints like this one, but the eye catching color combination of hot pink, mint green and navy blue drew me in. Of course, the fact that it’s an off the shoulder top (one of my favorite trends) didn’t hurt. For me, this top just screamed “vacay” when I was shopping at South Moon Under with my mom.

Next up is my denim skirt. I’m not sure if it’s been mentioned yet, but I’m a wee bit obsessed with denim skirts. I cannot even begin to express how much use my button down denim skirt has gotten since I bought it last summer. Although the button front trend is still alive and well, the distressed denim skirt look has been making an appearance. As soon as the trend started popping up, I new I had to buy my own. For some reason though, whenever I saw a version that I liked, it would be completely sold out in my size. Just by chance, on a shopping trip with a friend I walked into PacSun and saw one left in my size! I can’t wait to pair this skirt with a white tee or even sweaters in the fall. My advice, if you don’t already own a distressed denim skirt, buy one. Buy one now.

Along with my denim skirt, I also happened upon this adorable belt in PacSun. I have to say, when I saw the belt I thought I struck gold. Ever since I saw the pics of Kendall Jenner stepping out (in Paris??) with a double buckle belt, I’ve been dreaming of my own. Of course the only one I could find was the version she has, which was waaaay more than I wanted to spend on a belt, so the search died a sudden death. Fast forward to last week, after giving up the search awhile ago, I found a double buckle belt for only $25!

I finished the look with my go to summer shoes (last seen here), a pair of nude mules from Steve Madden. They go with everything I own, and I even wear them to work as a summer intern. And, as it just so happens, my mint green Kate Spade purse blended perfectly with the blouse to top everything off.

As always, I hope you enjoyed this post and don’t forget to follow on Bloglovin’!
