Happy happy Wednesday! Today I’m sharing another fall transition look that you can wear ASAP and some fall fashion dos and don’ts. I’m still desperately praying for cooler weather, but even if I’m stuck with the 80s and 90s I’m not going to let that stop me! The key is a darker color palette mixed with autumnal patterns (see this post for more tips). I’m so obsessed with these corduroy paper bag waist shorts from Shein, especially with this one shoulder top. Since the top was such a statement piece, I tried to dress the look down with my dad sneakers, but you could easily swap those for booties. And if a one-shoulder top isn’t your cup of tea, then a black t-shirt would look equally as cute!
But, aside from this outfit, here are some fall fashion Dos and Don’ts that I wanted to share!
Fall Fashion Dos and Don’ts
DO: Incorporate layers
With the weather changing you never know how your day is going to go. That’s why dressing in layers is perfect for fall—throw on a simple tee or cami with a sweater and a jacket over top and add or remove as needed!
DON’T: Weigh your outfit down
While I just told you to incorporate layers, it’s important to do so in a way that doesn’t weigh you down. If you want to wear a bulky sweater, I would opt for a more form fitting bottom and vice versa. Too much extra fabric is not flattering and takes your outfit from chic to not-so-cute.
DO: Embrace animal print
Animal print was all the rage last fall and it’s back again. But instead of just leopard and snakeskin, other animal prints are taking the stage. Zebra print anyone? This is such an easy fall trend to incorporate because it comes in pretty much everything—sweaters, tops, skirts, shoes, etc.!
DON’T: Wear every trend at once
You know me, I’m all about a trend. But, when you try to wear every single fall trend at once the result isn’t, well, trendy. Instead try incorporating just one trend and mix it with class pieces that are always in style.
DO: Invest in classic pieces
Speaking of classic pieces, don’t neglect them! This is the area where I would advise spending just a little bit more (save the fast fashion prices for exactly that: fast fashion). I’m thinking a tailored black blazer or a pair of leather boots. Think of what pieces you know you’re going to wear for years to come and spend accordingly.
DON’T: Forget to have fun!
Finally, don’t forget to have fun! While there are some fashion “rules,” don’t take them too seriously. Fashion is all about self-expression and making you feel confident in your own skin. So, while I may have shared my Dos and Don’ts, just remember to wear what makes you happy!
So, that’s it for today. What do you think of these fall fashion dos and don’ts? I’d love to hear your thoughts in the comments below!
