By now I think you all know that I’m a self-proclaimed francophile. France, specifically Paris, is one of my favorite places on earth and I’m obsessed with all things French culture. However, one of my biggest obsessions, as I’m sure you’ve guessed, is Parisian style. No matter the time of year, Parisian women have impeccable style. No matter how hard I try, I just can’t quite reach their level of je ne sais quoi what it comes to fashion. That doesn’t mean I won’t die trying though!
With that in mind, I thought I would share some of the key elements I’ve identified as summer essentials for the Parisian woman. A summer capsule wardrobe if you will.
Printed Midi Dress
One element that I’m constantly seeing on French girls during the summer is a printed midi dress — especially floral! French fashion is a little more dressed up than American, so a pretty midi dress wouldn’t look out of place on a sunny afternoon.
A classic silhouette to choose is a wrap style. It’s flattering on literally everyone and never goes out of style. But, if you’re feeling more trendy, so many French it-girls are rocking the spaghetti strap milkmaid style!
Espadrilles
When it comes to summer shoes, it doesn’t get more classic than espadrilles. Whether you’re going for a wedge version like I’m wearing above or a flatter style, espadrilles are a must have.
I just bought my pair and already they’re a favorite in my closet! The tie strap details have me reminiscing of ballet en pointe. Who doesn’t like a subtle ballet influence? And they’re comfortable to boot! Highly recommend getting a pair for yourself.
Straw Bag
Go follow some French fashion girls on Instagram and you’ll see a sea of straw bags. During the summer a straw bag is a neutral piece that will go with anything! Here are some of my favorites:
Denim Shorts
While Parisian women are known for their love of a classic straight leg pair of jeans, when it starts to get hot they trade those in for high waisted denim shorts. Opt for a classic pair over distressed for a more pulled together look that the French embody so well.
Kitten Heels
Another shoe trend you’ll see on Parisian girls is a strappy kitten heel. I talked about them on my Parisian style post last summer and I’m still very much obsessed! You can wear them casually or dress them up. The best part is that the heel is so low they’re still comfortable to walk in.
If you want to really be on trend with the French, opt for a heeled flip flop. It’s trendy, yet elevated at the same time. Personally, I’m all about it!
White Blouses
A white blouse is always a go-to when it comes to Parisian style. From a classic white button down to the more trendy romantic blouses we’re seeing this summer, you really can’t go wrong. Mix and match with your denim shorts, kitten heels, and espadrilles for endless chic looks.
One trend that seems to be popular this summer is dramatic collars and other Victorian-esque detailing. These blouses take the romantic vibes to a new level!
