Happy happy Wednesday! Today I’m sharing another fall transition look that you can wear ASAP and some fall fashion dos and don’ts. I’m still desperately praying for cooler weather, but even if I’m stuck with the 80s and 90s I’m not going to let that stop me! The key is a darker color palette mixed with autumnal patterns (see this post for more tips). I’m so obsessed with these corduroy paper bag waist shorts from Shein, especially with this one shoulder top. Since the top was such a statement piece, I tried to dress the look down with my dad sneakers, but you could easily swap those for booties. And if a one-shoulder top isn’t your cup of tea, then a black t-shirt would look equally as cute!

But, aside from this outfit, here are some fall fashion Dos and Don’ts that I wanted to share!

Fall Fashion Dos and Don’ts

DO: Incorporate layers

With the weather changing you never know how your day is going to go. That’s why dressing in layers is perfect for fall—throw on a simple tee or cami with a sweater and a jacket over top and add or remove as needed!

DON’T: Weigh your outfit down

While I just told you to incorporate layers, it’s important to do so in a way that doesn’t weigh you down. If you want to wear a bulky sweater, I would opt for a more form fitting bottom and vice versa. Too much extra fabric is not flattering and takes your outfit from chic to not-so-cute.

DO: Embrace animal print

Animal print was all the rage last fall and it’s back again. But instead of just leopard and snakeskin, other animal prints are taking the stage. Zebra print anyone? This is such an easy fall trend to incorporate because it comes in pretty much everything—sweaters, tops, skirts, shoes, etc.!

DON’T: Wear every trend at once

You know me, I’m all about a trend. But, when you try to wear every single fall trend at once the result isn’t, well, trendy. Instead try incorporating just one trend and mix it with class pieces that are always in style.

DO: Invest in classic pieces

Speaking of classic pieces, don’t neglect them! This is the area where I would advise spending just a little bit more (save the fast fashion prices for exactly that: fast fashion). I’m thinking a tailored black blazer or a pair of leather boots. Think of what pieces you know you’re going to wear for years to come and spend accordingly.

DON’T: Forget to have fun!

Finally, don’t forget to have fun! While there are some fashion “rules,” don’t take them too seriously. Fashion is all about self-expression and making you feel confident in your own skin. So, while I may have shared my Dos and Don’ts, just remember to wear what makes you happy!

So, that’s it for today. What do you think of these fall fashion dos and don’ts? I’d love to hear your thoughts in the comments below!

Fall Wish List

Fall Wish List

Soooo a bit of a late post this week. I’ve been pretty MIA, but I wanted to share a short and sweet post with some items I’m loving for fall. As I’ve mentioned before, fall is my favorite season, especially when it comes to fashion. So, of course, I’ve been spending my time online shopping. Here are some items that I’m absolutely loving right now!

Clearly I’m loving grandma cardigans and sweaters and dark/neutral color palette. Which item will you add to your wishlist? Let me know in the comments!

3 Easy Ways to Transition Your Outfits for Fall

Labor Day Weekend has come and passed, so now everyone and their mother is trying to pretend it’s fall—me included! Unfortunately, the weather doesn’t always agree. So, while we’re all craving to throw on our oversized sweaters and blanket scarves and sip on those pumpkin spice lattes, unless you want to sweat up a storm you’re going to have to slowly transition to fall. Luckily, I’m sharing three easy ways to transition your outfits. You’ll be looking autumnal without sacrificing comfort.

Play With Fabrics

My first tip is to start adding more fall/winter fabrics. Think leather, suede, corduroy, velvet, etc. But, make sure you do it in a way that won’t leave you dying from heat. An easy way to add in those fabrics is to pair shorts or a skirt (in my case a skort) in a heavier fabric with a lighter top. Try wearing a corduroy skirt with a light cami or a simple white tee with leather shorts. This is the perfect time to pull out those pieces that always look like they should be worn in fall, but by the time you actually get around to wearing them it’s way too cold.

Switch Out Summer Shoes

The easiest way to start dressing for fall is to swap your summer sandals for booties and cute flats. I would hold off on the over the knee boots a little longer, but throwing on a pair of booties will definitely tip the scales on your outfit towards fall instead of summer. Just by adding the white booties like I did in the photos above definitely changes the entire vibe of the outfit.

Incorporate Autumnal Colors

My last tip: start wearing fall colors. Bring out those darker neutrals and jewel tones, the burnt oranges and mustard yellows! While I actually stayed fairly bright with this outfit, one of my favorite color combinations for fall is black and brown. I think those colors look stunning together and definitely scream “autumn.” The best part is that you can still wear summery fabrics and styles and stay cool while looking like you need that aforementioned pumpkin spice latte in hand.

So there are my three tips for transitioning your outfits from summer to fall. How are you going to transition this season? Let me know in the comments!

20+ Instagram Worthy Tops to Wear Now and Into Fall

20+ Instagram Worthy Tops to Wear Now and Into Fall

top to wear now and into fall 5top to wear now and into fall 4top to wear now and into fall 6top to wear now and into fall 12top to wear now and into fall 9top to wear now and into fall 11

I don’t know about you, but I am so, so ready for fall. Fun fact: fall is my absolute favorite season—there’s nothing I love more than waiting for the air to turn crisp, burning a cozy candle, and even visiting a pumpkin patch or apple orchard. I think the one thing I look forward to most though is fall clothing. Maybe it’s just me, but I think the fall season has the best clothes and I’m always so eager to throw on a comfy sweater and booties.

Alas, the weather doesn’t always cooperate with my wishes. While I’m dreaming of sweater weather right now, it’s been in the 90s here this week. Sooo, I have to get a little creative.

Right now I’m focusing on the tops that I can wear at the end of summer and into the beginning of fall. Think short sleeve, statement tops. Pair them with shorts now and swap for jeans later. While I paired my top with some paper bag waisted shorts and kitten heels, I could easily see myself styling it with a pair of straight leg jeans and a leather jacket on top. Maybe even a wool hat to complete the look! Regardless of the weather though you can’t go wrong with the top of the moment: a puff sleeve, slightly cropped top with a sweetheart neck. Check out some others I’m loving:

P.S. Did you see last week’s post also featuring a puff sleeve top?

Puff Sleeves: The Dramatic Touch You Didn’t Know You Needed

Puff Sleeves: The Dramatic Touch You Didn’t Know You Needed

puff sleeve top 5puff sleeve top 6puff sleeve top 2puff sleeve top 7puff sleeve top 4puff sleeve top 1If there is one silhouette I’ve been loving for awhile now it’s the puff sleeve! Something about a puffed sleeve instantly makes any look feel a little bit more dramatic, glamorous, and put-together. Take a simple ribbed tee like the one I’m wearing above. It’s a basic top and would definitely be a closet staple. But, the puff sleeve detail takes it from basic and boring to noteworthy.

What I love about this top is that you can pretty much wear it for any occasion. From running around on the weekend, going out to dinner, or even going to work I guarantee there is a puffed sleeve top that will fit your needs.

I wore the outfit above out to dinner while on vacation. I love how even though I was wearing a ribbed top and shorts, the little details made it look much more elevated. Puff sleeves on the top, the structured silhouette of the shorts, and the addition of kitten heels at the end combined to create an outfit that was dressed up without being over-the-top.

What do you think of this look?
