I don’t think there is an outfit combo that is more on brand for me than a cozy sweater paired with a denim skirt and knee-high boots. This is the epitome of a fall outfit in my opinion. So, while we had a break in the cold-front we’ve been experiencing here in Baltimore you know I whipped this outfit right out!
I’ve been wanting to shoot this sweater for you guys because I’m absolutely in love with it (it’s actually been hanging in my room and I can’t tell you how many times my mom has looked at it and said she loved it). You know white is my go-to—whether that’s sweaters, tees, or blouses—but I love the fun addition of the color block sleeves! Paired with the balloon sleeve silhouette it’s a subtle statement and so, so chic.
Again, at this point you guys know my undying love of denim skirts (check out my fall staples post here), so I won’t go into detail. And of course, the outfit wouldn’t be complete without some form of boots. I wanted this outfit to look classic and slightly preppy—I’d say mission accomplished!
But now that we’ve got the outfit covered, here’s another reminder about the $1,000 Amazon gift card giveaway. Enter below!

I think it’s a safe bet to make that boots will always be in style when fall comes around. There’s nothing more quintessentially autumnal than a boot and sweater combo. But, while the type of footwear stays consistent, there are variations in style each year. Don’t worry! I’m here to help you navigate which boot styles you should add to your cart ASAP and which you should pass over. This year, I’ve identified four key boot styles that will have you looking trendy and stylish in a pinch!
Move over leopard print because snakeskin is the new go-to neutral! Snakeskin booties (and boots if you’re feeling more adventurous) are truly the it-boot this season. I recently bought this pair and can’t get over how cute they are! I like the lighter snakeskin for a more neutral look, but definitely want a darker pair to add to my closet. And of course, a pair of snakeskin knee-high boots are on my list! I love that snakeskin booties can be worn so many different way. I obviously paired mine with a skirt and sweater, but also recently wore them in a more casual look this past weekend.
White booties started making an appearance about two years ago, but this year they’re really picking up! From a classic bootie style to a western edge, there are so many different types of white booties. And I get that this style may be intimidating—some people still feel like wearing white shoes after Labor Day is a hard no—take my word for it, you can’t go wrong! I recently bought this pair of white booties and the first time I wore them out multiple people came up to me and complimented them. The sales associate at Madewell even said she was going over to Nordstrom after her shift to purchase them! (Check them out in this blog post)
Square Toe Boots
Square toe styles started popping up this past spring and summer in sandals and clearly the trend isn’t going anywhere as it’s moved into boots. Whether you go with booties or regular boots, a square toe is sure to make your outfit infinitely more chic, but in the subtlest way. Because this is a newer trend, you’re sure to stand out if you buy a square toe boot. This is an easy way to be ahead of the game without going to the extreme. Another great thing about the square toe trend is that you can mix it with other trends—I’m thinking square toe, snakeskin boots or square toe, white booties!
And now, for the last boot style you need this fall: knee-high boots. While I don’t think over-the-knee boots are leaving anytime soon, lately knee-high boots have been taking the stage. As a petite girl, I’m loving this because OTK boots are either 1. too long on me, or 2. don’t stay up. Knee-high boots give you a similar look without any of the discomfort of OTK boots (am I the only one who finds them itchy?). Personally, I’m ready to give my OTK boots a break and fully embrace the knee-high trend! And just like with square toe boots, you can easily incorporate other trends.
So there you have it—the four boot styles you need to try this season! As you can tell, I’m already loving the snakeskin bootie trend. Let me know in the comments which style you love the most!
P.S. For those interested I’m drinking a Starbucks iced chai latte with 1 pump of the pumpkin sauce and it’s delish! Although, it was so cold out I should’ve opted for a pumpkin spice latte!
If there’s one thing I love, it’s a matching set. When I saw that short suit sets were gradually coming back in style it was love at first sight. There’s nothing better than a blazer and matching shorts—it’s a sophisticated yet fun look. Or, as the title of this post suggest, the perfect mixture of work and play.
But, by now you’re probably thinking where the heck I am going to wear a short suit? Believe me, that crossed my mind as well. Although it comes across as an intimidating outfit to pull off, it’s much easier than you think. Now, unless you work in a really cool office, this is not me suggesting you show up to your 9 am wearing shorts (but if your office is pretty relaxed then I say go for it!). Instead, I would wear this outfit for a fun night out look. It would be so cute to wear for dinner or drinks with booties like I’m wearing above or even a strappy pair of heels.
If you are still feeling unsure though, then the suit set I’m wearing for this post is a must as it’s only $20! This is also the perfect outfit for the in-between weather a lot of us are still dealing with—you’ll have the fall look while still dealing with summer temps. Not only are blazers a fall staple, plaid is an absolute must right now. I know I’ll be wearing this blazer later with a pair of jeans and booties.
So, have I convinced you yet? I’d love to hear your thoughts on a short suit set in the comments below! And, if you want more content be sure to follow me on Instagram!
Soooo a bit of a late post this week. I’ve been pretty MIA, but I wanted to share a short and sweet post with some items I’m loving for fall. As I’ve mentioned before, fall is my favorite season, especially when it comes to fashion. So, of course, I’ve been spending my time online shopping. Here are some items that I’m absolutely loving right now!
Clearly I’m loving grandma cardigans and sweaters and dark/neutral color palette. Which item will you add to your wishlist? Let me know in the comments!
Labor Day Weekend has come and passed, so now everyone and their mother is trying to pretend it’s fall—me included! Unfortunately, the weather doesn’t always agree. So, while we’re all craving to throw on our oversized sweaters and blanket scarves and sip on those pumpkin spice lattes, unless you want to sweat up a storm you’re going to have to slowly transition to fall. Luckily, I’m sharing three easy ways to transition your outfits. You’ll be looking autumnal without sacrificing comfort.
Play With Fabrics
My first tip is to start adding more fall/winter fabrics. Think leather, suede, corduroy, velvet, etc. But, make sure you do it in a way that won’t leave you dying from heat. An easy way to add in those fabrics is to pair shorts or a skirt (in my case a skort) in a heavier fabric with a lighter top. Try wearing a corduroy skirt with a light cami or a simple white tee with leather shorts. This is the perfect time to pull out those pieces that always look like they should be worn in fall, but by the time you actually get around to wearing them it’s way too cold.
Switch Out Summer Shoes
The easiest way to start dressing for fall is to swap your summer sandals for booties and cute flats. I would hold off on the over the knee boots a little longer, but throwing on a pair of booties will definitely tip the scales on your outfit towards fall instead of summer. Just by adding the white booties like I did in the photos above definitely changes the entire vibe of the outfit.
Incorporate Autumnal Colors
My last tip: start wearing fall colors. Bring out those darker neutrals and jewel tones, the burnt oranges and mustard yellows! While I actually stayed fairly bright with this outfit, one of my favorite color combinations for fall is black and brown. I think those colors look stunning together and definitely scream “autumn.” The best part is that you can still wear summery fabrics and styles and stay cool while looking like you need that aforementioned pumpkin spice latte in hand.
So there are my three tips for transitioning your outfits from summer to fall. How are you going to transition this season? Let me know in the comments!
Hello ladies and TGIF! It’s been a while since I’ve done a post for the “A Dainty Detail” series, so I thought I could share a quick one since it’s Friday—no one has time to read a lengthy post this close to the weekend! When brainstorming what to cover today it took me all of 5 seconds to come up with the latest trend I’ve been obsessing over: western booties!
I’ve been seeing western booties popping up all over my Instagram feed lately and I have to say I’m obsessed with the trend. I love that you can wear them now with sundresses and skirts and bring them into fall as well. While I’m loving this trend entirely, I will admit white western booties are what truly captured my heart. I’ve been dying to snag a pair for myself.
But anyway, here are a few options I found that are all so so cute. Let me know which pair is your favorite in the comments below!
