Polka Dots for Spring: the Print You Need

Polka Dots for Spring: the Print You Need

polka dots for spring 3polka dots for spring 4polka dots for spring 2polka dots for spring 1Hello from New Orleans! I can’t believe today is my last day here, it’s been such a fun spring break. And I can’t wait to share all of our travel deets on a New Orleans travel guide coming soon (check out my London travel guide here)!

But anyway, here is the look I wore for spending the day in City Park. We walked around the grounds, played mini golf, and had lunch—honestly you could spend days just in the park. Because we were going to be walking around and playing mini golf, I wanted to wear something comfy, casual, but cute. And you really can’t go wrong with a cute top and light shorts with sandals!

I don’t know about you, but I’m over florals for spring—it’s all about the polka dots! I love the unique color of these shorts paired with white polka dots. They will definitely be on repeat through spring and summer. I also love the subtle ruffle detail on the hem and down the front. It paired so well with the babydoll top.

The best part of this outfit is that my top and shorts together are only $20! Plus, Shein is having a sale right now through April 14th. You can get an extra 15% off with the code shsale058! Definitely check out my top and shorts, plus some other items. Shein is my favorite place to shop trendy items for less.

What would you like to see next on the blog? Let me know in the comments!

Happy Thursday babes! So close to the weekend, thank god. I’m actually visiting one of my best friends in Charleston this weekend and I am SOO excited (stay tuned for content). Anyway, back to this week’s look…

I bought this ruffle top about a month ago and it has been a staple in my closet ever since. You may have seen it already if you follow me on Instagram (if you don’t go follow!). The silhouette of the top is just so different from any other top I have. Even better: the shirt was just under $100 when I bought it from Nordstrom, and while it’s sold out there now, it’s on sale at Macy’s for $72!

I decided to go with a ruffle theme and pair my top with this asymmetrical, denim ruffle skirt I also bought from Nordstrom. When I bought it, I was actually looking for a plain, non-distressed denim skirt. I saw this one instead and knew I had to buy it! Like the top, it’s a silhouette that I just haven’t seen and am loving. Clearly ruffles are a fave of mine.

Because I wore this look to class before shooting it, I paired my slip on white sneaker-type shoes with it. And let me tell you — I cannot stop wearing these shoes! I get so many compliments on them and they’re just simple slip on sneakers. They pair so well with leggings and a tee on lazy days, but then also dresses and skirts on days when you went to look put together but still casual. If you’re looking for a new shoe for spring, I highly recommend!

On a side note, I just want to talk about my lipstick for a minute. It’s one of the Sephora Collection lipsticks and although this color isn’t sold anymore, you should definitely buy it! They’re only about $12, but I think they last better than any lipstick I own, including ones I’ve spent upwards of $30 on.

Anyway, thanks for stopping by! If you liked this post, let me know in the comments below!

Spring Edit

Spring Edit

Fashion Week 2017 got us excited for all of the new trends we would be seeing by the time spring rolls around, but my favorite trend by far is modern romance. From dainty prints, pastel colors, ruffles, to sheer fabrics, I for one can’t wait for the weather to warm up. In anticipation of shedding our winter gear and opting for lighter fabrics and shorter hemlines, here are a few pieces I’m absolutely loving for this season.

  1. Button down. How cute is the chihuahua print on this shirt?! It’s definitely not something I would imagine to be on shirt, but for some reason it just works. I’ve mentioned before on the blog how much I love button downs and this one is no different. It’s perfect for spring with the dainty (and adorable) print and light blue color.
  2. Tie front dress. Polka dots are going to be everywhere this season! Transition into warmer weather with this long sleeve, but lightweight dress. I love that the polka dot print isn’t as overwhelming as some of the other polka dot pieces I’ve been seeing lately.
  3. Basket bag. If you loved the basket bag trend over the summer, fear not. This is one trend that isn’t going anywhere. I love this particular bag because while it is on trend, it’s also functional and not over the top making it perfect for every day use.
  4. Pink skirt. If you follow the blog regularly then you know how much I love A-line skirts. Surprisingly enough, I don’t own a pink one yet. But, I think it’s the perfect piece to add to my spring wardrobe.
  5. Kitten heels. This heel style took over this past season and is making it’s way into spring. I’m loving this pair of kitten heels because it effortlessly meshes a delicate style with edgier details. I think these would look darling paired with a sundress.
  6. Floral dress. As soon as I added this dress to my list, all I could hear in my head was Meryl Streep’s line, “Florals? For spring? Groundbreaking.” But, in all honesty, florals for spring are a classic and are never not in style. I love this particular dress because it really plays up the modern romance trend — pastel colors, delicate prints, and ruffles, ruffles, ruffles!

I hope this list inspired you to get started on your spring aesthetic. Comment below with your favorite trend for this season!

Hello lovely readers, welcome back! If this top seems familiar, then it’s because you may have seen my blog about it some time back in March. Buuuut… It’s been restocked at Nordstrom in not only this color, but black and white as well! When I last wrote about this top, I emphasized how perfect it is for transitioning between seasons. Right now I’m loving it because it still feels summery, but is made of a thicker material that makes it perfect for nighttime (and when it starts to cool off).

I paired the top with a denim skirt, as per usual. I chose my white mini because I think it complements the pastel color of the top, plus my regular blue denim skirt may have faded into the blue shirt.

From this outfit what I’m most excited about is my new Steve Madden slides! I’m absolutely obsessed with these because they look a lot like the Gucci slides, but cost $80 instead of $700. They’re incredibly comfortable, but if you get them definitely size up. I’m usually a 6 so I ordered them in 6.5, but honestly I think a 7 might have been better.

If you follow me on instagram you may have gotten the first look at my new haircut, as well as a closer version of the lipstick I’m wearing. I went to the MAC store and asked one of the women there to pick me out a light, nude color lipstick and I’m in love with what she picked! It’s definitely something you can wear everyday without feeling like you’re over doing it.

Thanks for reading and I hope you like this week’s post! Just as a heads up, my posting while abroad (the next four months) might be a little sporadic, but I’m hoping I’ll be able to post at least every other week if not every week.

Unless you’ve been living under a rock, you may have noticed that the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale is happening. It’s been impossible to scroll through my insta feed without at least one mention of it. With that being said, I headed on over to my local Nordstrom store to check out what was left. Unfortunately, not much, seeing as I’m not a cardholder so I didn’t get early access.

What I did walk away with was my pink ruffled top. I had actually seen this top on a few other bloggers in white with black polka dots, but they were sold out of it in my size. Then I saw it in the blush version that I’m wearing, as well as a pretty charcoal color. I was torn between the two, but ended up with the blush version. What I love about this top is that while it will definitely work for fall, it’s really lightweight and wearable in the summer, even though it’s long sleeved. I actually wore it to work before restyling with my white mini skirt and felt completely comfortable despite the 90 degree weather.

Speaking of this white denim skirt, while it’s not part of the sale, I did buy it on sale from Topshop recently. However, it is no longer available at either Topshop or Nordstrom, but I linked to a similar white Topshop denim skirt that’s also super cute, with a reasonable price point. I do recommend sizing up if you order it — I had to return my skirt originally because it was too tight. I had actually heard that advice before about Topshop denim and obvi ignored it, which I ended up regretting.

But back to the sale. My mom and I went to Nordstrom together to see what was what, and headed to our favorite department: shoes. We both ended up with a pair of these smoking slipper type shoes (mine in the embroidered velvet and hers in a tan leather). We originally thought that they were part of the sale (they def look like fall shoes), but apparently they aren’t… However, the price point is still on par with similar shoes that are part of the sale, so there is that.

I’m not sure if I’ve mentioned it on the blog or not, but at the end of August I’m headed to London to study abroad for my fall semester. I am so excited, but I’ve been thinking a lot about what shoes to bring. I want to be stylish, yet comfortable while walking around when there, so these smoking slippers/loafer type shoes are absolutely perfect. I literally bought these on Sunday and have worn them every day since, they’re so comfortable. I am OBSESSED!

Last but not least, I added a wristlet to my ensemble. If you saw last week’s blog post, the photos were taken while my parents and I took a day trip to St. Michaels. While there, my mom and I saw these adorable wristlets in a little boutique and had to have them. Mine as you can see is in white, and my mom got one in a light gray. They’re perfect for holding your cash/cards, your phone, and a lipstick.

Thanks for stopping by and if you liked this post (or the blog in general) please give me a follow or share on social media!

P.S. my lipstick is Sephora Collection and despite how cheap it is, it is the longest lasting lipstick I own. Even after eating it stays mostly on. HIGHLY recommend.

One of my favorite trends for spring/summer/any time of year is ruffles. They’ve slowly been emerging over the past few seasons and now they’re being fully embraced. From shirts, dresses, shorts, skirts, even pants, the new motto is put a ruffle on it. Ruffles take any garment from casual, to fun and flirty. (Shop more ruffled picks here, here, and here!)

My look for today features my new ruffled shorts from Zara that I am obsessed with. While the shorts would definitely still be cute without the ruffle edge, that small detail instantly transforms them into something a little more.

For accessories, I went with my new necklace from Loft. I bought it in stores on Sunday, but it wasn’t on the Loft website unfortunately. But, the necklace I linked to is also super cute. I’ve been gravitating towards dedicated layered necklaces lately. I also added my blue mules to give the outfit a pop of color to the black and white look. The dotted print on the shorts just screamed for my white cat eye sunglasses to keep with the retro vibe.

This outfit would be perfect for a casual day on vacation or brunch with friends. I hope you liked this post, and come back next week for more!
