I never thought the day would come that I would refer to neutral colored trousers as a trend, but here we are. The pants I would normally save for office attire are actually, kind of, chic…? I don’t know when it happened by summer trousers are here to stay and making a statement!

Lately, I’ve been seeing these pants paired with fitted crop tops and sandals. I love how my one shoulder top pairs with the baggier pant style. And the barely-there sandals peaking out from under the pant leg look adorable.

I went for a more elevated, Parisian vibe with black and gold accessories. Just imagine a French girl walking down the streets of Paris in this casual cool combination that is so typical of the city. And of course anything that is reminiscent of Paris is a win in my book!

But now that I’ve talked about my look for this post, I want to share why I’m loving this trend. So, if you’re not convinced yet, let me sell you on the idea.

3 Reasons You Should Try Summer Trousers

  1. They’re insanely comfortable. Loose and roomy paired with a light fabric? It actually feels like wearing pajama pants. If you’re ready to upgrade your quarantine sweatpants for something a tad more chic, this is it!
  2. They’re universally flattering. The thing about wide leg trousers is that they look good on everyone! The baggy fit paired with more elevated details will always look pulled together. Bonus: you can have them tailored to fit you perfectly.
  3. There are so many styling options! Because of the neutral color, basically anything goes with summer trousers. I kept it simple with black details, but anything from color to prints will work! My suggestion though is to pay attention to proportions. Because the pants are baggier, I would go with a more fitted top for balance.

Have I sold you on summer trousers yet? I think this trend is so chic, plus it can easily be worn to work! Let me know your thoughts in the comments below!

When it comes to the “ugliest” decades for style, the 2000s are at the top of my list. Looking back at the low-rise jeans, rhinestones, and other fashion atrocities I can’t help but cringe. And then I realized I was a hypocrite. I took a long, hard look at my Pinterest boards as of late and it hit me: all of my style inspiration at the moment is a throwback to Y2K.

The 2000s may have been a weird time for fashion, but it was bright, colorful, and quirky—just what we need as we head into summer. The world in general could use a little more brightness. So, if fashion is one way to achieve that, I’m going to embrace it!

When it comes to this outfit, there’s definitely a bit of a Mean Girls vibe. And you know what? I LOVE it! If I’m not looking like Regina George or Gretchen Wieners I’m doing it wrong! Go back and watch the movie (or any 2000s classic) and you’ll see a ton of school girl inspired skirts.

What I love about these shorts is that they combine the pleats and the plaid print that’s reminiscent of Y2K, but still completely modern! To keep the outfit looking fresh and not like I’m dressing in character, I threw on a basic white top and sneakers. And let’s talk about this top for a minute. It’s from one of my favorite brands and such great quality. I’ve already gotten so much use out of it; a closet staple for sure.

2000s Inspired Trends

While plaid and pleats are an obvious choice, let’s chat about other 2000s inspired trends:

  • Cardigans: Another preppy school girl looks, cardigans are having a moment right now. Whether long sleeved or short sleeved, you can’t go wrong! Opt for a cropped fit to really nail the trend.
  • Halter tops: It took me a second to fully get on board with this. And while I’m still somewhat hesitant, I’ve seen a ton of cute halter tops and can’t wait to wear them for summer! I think the key is to opt for a v-neck or scoop neck style vs. a high neck.
  • Flip-flops: From heeled flip-flops to the traditional sandal, they’re going to be an it-shoe this summer. To avoid looking clunky, go for a thin, sleek pair in a neutral color.
  • Dad jeans: I think it’s safe to say skinny jeans are a thing of the past. While straight leg jeans have been taking their place, dad jeans are quietly taking center stage. I’m talking about looser-fitting, baggy jeans that go all the way down. And yes, a lot of them are low-rise (although I’m still not ready for that, personally).

What do you think of this trend? I’d love to hear your thoughts in the comments below!

P.S. That large mark on my leg is a HUGE bruise from dropping a lounge chair on myself…

A Dainty Detail: Tie-Dye

I’m back again this Friday to bring you another installment of A Dainty Detail. This week I thought I had to share the trend that’s been blowing up my Instagram feed this summer—tie-dye. I will admit it took me a little while to get on board with this trend. I kept having weird, middle school field day throwbacks and just couldn’t do it. But then, I started seeing some of the chicest outfits on my feed featuring none other than this bright trend. What actually finally sold me on it was a simple look: a tie-dye tee with jeans and sandals. From there I was hooked!

Going along with my initial hesitance I also will say that I’m pretty picky when it comes to a tie-dye print. You can easily look tacky in the super bright and super colorful combinations, but there are also some subtly sophisticated prints too. Here are some tie-dye pieces that are The Dainty Details approved!

What do you think of the tie-dye trend? Do you love it or hate it?

A Dainty Detail: Western Booties

Hello ladies and TGIF! It’s been a while since I’ve done a post for the “A Dainty Detail” series, so I thought I could share a quick one since it’s Friday—no one has time to read a lengthy post this close to the weekend! When brainstorming what to cover today it took me all of 5 seconds to come up with the latest trend I’ve been obsessing over: western booties!

I’ve been seeing western booties popping up all over my Instagram feed lately and I have to say I’m obsessed with the trend. I love that you can wear them now with sundresses and skirts and bring them into fall as well. While I’m loving this trend entirely, I will admit white western booties are what truly captured my heart. I’ve been dying to snag a pair for myself.

But anyway, here are a few options I found that are all so so cute. Let me know which pair is your favorite in the comments below!
