Paris Fashion Inspiration: Dressing Like a French It-Girl

Paris Fashion Inspiration: Dressing Like a French It-Girl

If ever I feel like I’m in a fashion rut, traveling is sure to change it. With that being said, nothing truly inspires me like traveling to Europe. Every time I go to a new city, my creative side is sparked—great for my Instagram, not so much for my bank account!

As one of the fashion capitals of the world—if not the capital—Paris embodies a cool, sophisticated vibe that’s matched in the fashion. Beautiful white architecture corresponds with understated white blouses, the natural elements of the city are reflected in simple hair and makeup. There are so many ways I’m feeling inspired after my short visit to Paris, and I want to share them all!

Denim

If you’re going to dress like a Parisian, investing in high quality denim is a must. A good pair of jeans is truly a staple for chic French girls. The style I saw on repeat (and decided to finally partake in myself!) is straight cut cropped jeans. Obviously, this isn’t only a trend in Paris, but pretty much everyone there is on board. I just ordered these Levi’s (I saw them at Shopbop first, but got them almost $20 cheaper on Amazon!), but here are a few other options I’m loving:

Trench Coats

I already talked about this on Instagram, but when in Paris a trench coat is a must. Everyone has one and they’re perfect for chilly spring weather: they fight off the cold and keep you dry when it rains (just make sure to bring an umbrella too!).

Feminine Dresses

From slip dresses to wrap styles, anything that screams feminine from the 90s is a yes. Bonus points if it has puffy capped sleeves! If you’re looking for a dress that truly screams Parisian it-girl, Reformation is the way to go. It’s a little pricier, but it’s a French brand that embodies the spirit of the feminine dress. Here are some dresses I’m loving from Reformation and other brands!

Kitten Heels

The last outfit tip I’m taking from the French girls is kitten heels. Like I mentioned before with the denim, this is by know means a new style but it just fits in so well with other aspects of the Parisian wardrobe. I’m already imagining an outfit with my new straight leg jeans, a billowy blouse and the kitten heels I had to buy! As a petite girl, I love any shoe that gives me an extra boost so I’m all about this trend; it lends some height without making you uncomfortable. Here are some kitten heels to check out:

Just writing this post has me wanting to shop ’til I drop! I hope this inspires you as much as it inspired. Before I go, I want to share some of the stores I love to help with my French it-girl inspiration:

Do you have any other stores I should add to this list? Also, how will you incorporate this French trends? Let me know in the comments below!

I don’t know about you, but lately I have been FEELING the star print trend. I feel like out of nowhere this print started popping up and I can’t get enough of it. From dainty star jewelry to pieces like this sweatshirt, it’s such an easy print to incorporate.

I decided to pair my star print sweatshirt with a black denim skirt and some easy slip on shoes — my go-to. It’s such a casual, yet put together look. I wore this to class, but could definitely wear this out and about on the weekends.

And can I just say, I got so many compliments on this top when I wore it to class. It just looks so put together, but is the comfiest piece ever. The best part is that it’s only $22! This is definitely something to snap up now and wear all through the rest of winter and into spring.

And the best news: you can shop my sweatshirt, plus the rest of shein’s site with my discount code dainty15 for 15% off your purchase!

A Dainty Detail: Resin Earrings

Hello, hello! I thought I’d start an ongoing series on the blog featuring my current obsessions. You may know from a recent Instagram post that I’m loving resin earrings at the moment (especially if they’re tortoiseshell!). I started seeing this trend pop up at the beginning of the year and now that summer is upon us, it. is. EVERYWHERE. And I have to say — I’m loving it!

With that being said, I thought I would gather all of the options I’m loving into one shoppable post! Click on the images below and get to shopping!

Thanks for stopping by! This is something I hope to do once, maybe twice, a month just to highlight some of my favorite trends. I hope you like it, and make sure to weigh in your thoughts on resin earrings in the comments below!

Hello from New Orleans! If you follow me on Instagram you know that I flew into NOLA on Tuesday to spend the week with my friend who goes to school here. I knew it was going to be extremely hot and humid, so I made sure to pack lightweight clothes for the trip.

How cute is the paper bag waist on these shorts? They’re actually a gift from my mom from a cute boutique in Disney called American Threads. I’m not sure if they have any other locations, but I checked out their clothes online and it’s all so cute! Anyway, I’m a big fan of the paper bag waist silhouette — it’s such a flattering look.

I paired the shorts with some of my go-tos: my white cami and my Tory Burch sandals. If you’ve followed me for awhile then you know how often I wear that white camisole. It’s probably the best purchase I’ve made in terms of cost/wear. Unfortunately, Topshop isn’t selling it anymore, but they have a new camisole that might be even cuter! I’m in love with the scalloped edges and it’s definitely on my list.

Aside from the shorts, my favorite part of this outfit is my necklace! I just got it from Free  People and have been wearing it non-stop. I loved the gold with blue-ish/green stones, but it comes in a few other colors too! I’m really into the layered necklace look, but I’m lazy and that’s why I love this one — it looks like I layered necklaces together but it’s just one necklace.

Striped Dress + Panama City Beach

Welcome back everyone! I hope your weeks are going well. I’m definitely sad to be back at school instead of at the beach. As my Insta followers know (and as the title suggests), I just spent a week in Panama City Beach, Florida with three friends for our spring break.

The start of the trip was a bit chaotic accommodation-wise, but we ended up staying at a Holiday Inn Express and it was actually really nice. It was located right on the beach, had a heated pool, a lazy river, a jacuzzi, and a tiki bar! Unfortunately, the weather wasn’t the warmest so we didn’t get to spend much time at the beach (the heated pool and jacuzzi came in handy!).

We shot this look our last night in Florida right after dinner at a really great Mexican joint called Diego’s Burrito Factory (if you’re ever in PCB definitely check it out — it’s like an upscale Chipotle) and right before our sunset walk on the beach. I really love this striped dress because it works for both spring and summer and can be dressed up or down. The sizing is a little difficult, because it definitely runs big but it’s a little tight around the rib area (other review from Nordstrom had the same opinion). I ended up sizing down one size and I’m pretty happy with the fit.

I paired this dress with some of my favorite spring/summer accessories — my Marc Fisher wedges and my basket bag! The wedges, as I mentioned in a previous post, are a must-have. They look so good with everything from shorts to skirts and dresses to rompers and jumpsuits; you really can’t go wrong. And if there is one bag you need for spring/summer it’s a basket bag! With so many cute options right now, the hardest part will be choosing which one (or two, or three) to buy!

What is a staple in your closet this season? Comment below!

P. S. Ignore the ugly green band around my wrist. The hotel made us wear wristbands all week and they couldn’t have chosen a more garish color.

Spring Edit

Spring Edit

Fashion Week 2017 got us excited for all of the new trends we would be seeing by the time spring rolls around, but my favorite trend by far is modern romance. From dainty prints, pastel colors, ruffles, to sheer fabrics, I for one can’t wait for the weather to warm up. In anticipation of shedding our winter gear and opting for lighter fabrics and shorter hemlines, here are a few pieces I’m absolutely loving for this season.

  1. Button down. How cute is the chihuahua print on this shirt?! It’s definitely not something I would imagine to be on shirt, but for some reason it just works. I’ve mentioned before on the blog how much I love button downs and this one is no different. It’s perfect for spring with the dainty (and adorable) print and light blue color.
  2. Tie front dress. Polka dots are going to be everywhere this season! Transition into warmer weather with this long sleeve, but lightweight dress. I love that the polka dot print isn’t as overwhelming as some of the other polka dot pieces I’ve been seeing lately.
  3. Basket bag. If you loved the basket bag trend over the summer, fear not. This is one trend that isn’t going anywhere. I love this particular bag because while it is on trend, it’s also functional and not over the top making it perfect for every day use.
  4. Pink skirt. If you follow the blog regularly then you know how much I love A-line skirts. Surprisingly enough, I don’t own a pink one yet. But, I think it’s the perfect piece to add to my spring wardrobe.
  5. Kitten heels. This heel style took over this past season and is making it’s way into spring. I’m loving this pair of kitten heels because it effortlessly meshes a delicate style with edgier details. I think these would look darling paired with a sundress.
  6. Floral dress. As soon as I added this dress to my list, all I could hear in my head was Meryl Streep’s line, “Florals? For spring? Groundbreaking.” But, in all honesty, florals for spring are a classic and are never not in style. I love this particular dress because it really plays up the modern romance trend — pastel colors, delicate prints, and ruffles, ruffles, ruffles!

I hope this list inspired you to get started on your spring aesthetic. Comment below with your favorite trend for this season!
