I’m not sure what was going on on the east coast this past weekend but it was WARM. I’m talking early spring warm that had everyone baffled. So of course, I took that chance to break out my wardrobe favorite: a denim skirt.
All of my OG followers know I worship at the altar of denim skirts. They’re a staple from spring through fall in my closet. With that being said, we can’t forget that it’s, you know, winter… With that in mind, even when the weather is starting to get warmer, I still like to tip my hat at the actual season we’re in.
I think the best way to dress for a warmer winter day is to stick with neutrals—they work for every season. So, with my denim skirt firmly planted on my body I kept the rest of the outfit simple. A white turtleneck is always a good option. I love this one because the material isn’t too heavy, but it was perfect to wear without a jacket. High-knee boots were another necessity. It was warm, but nowhere near shorts weather so keeping my legs somewhat covered was perfect. And just to give the outfit a little pizzazz I threw on my new favorite hat (seriously it’s so good—looks like a Lack of Color hat but under $50?? Can’t beat it!).
So there you have it, a super simple outfit for days that are warmer than average in the middle of winter. Let me know what you think in the comments below!
2019 has come and gone and brought a new decade in its place. I don’t know about you, but it’s so weird for me to say the year is 2020. But anyway, who cares what year it is when we could be talking cute sweaters? Because that’s exactly what I want to talk about this week.
If you know me then you know you probably won’t see me in anything but a sweater from November to March. I’ve actually run out of space in my closet for more sweaters, so obviously I have a problem. So of course, any winter outfit formula I come up with has to include one.
And what is this formula I speak of? It’s simple, but still interesting. Throw on a sweater, jeans, and whatever shoe is comfy to wear (you know I love my FILAs). But, any old sweater won’t do. The sweater needs to be the star of the show—whether that means funky or slightly eye-catching is up to you. When I saw this sage green sweater online, I knew I had to have it. I don’t think I’ve ever seen a sweater in this shade of green and the little pom-pom detail was an added bonus. What’s perfect about this sweater is that it isn’t a huge statement maker, but it does stand out from the crowd. So, when I style it down with jeans and tennis shoes I still manage to look put together.
So there you have it, my no-fail, easy winter weekend outfit. Follow my formula and you’ll be looking chic, never frumpy. And as a little side note, accessories are everything!
Two posts in a row with a hat?? Who am I? But actually, hats are such a fun accessory in the winter because 1.) they look cute and 2.) they keep your head warm. So basically a win-win kind of situation. But, I digress. Today I want to share an easy (chic) winter outfit with pieces you probably already own—the hat is optional.
I think winter dressing really comes down to the outerwear. I tend to focus my outfits around either a coat or scarf that I’m loving. Of course, with this outfit, a black coat goes with pretty much everything. But, as soon as I saw this coat I wanted to create an ultra chic and sleek look.
So, with that in mind, I paired my classic but well made pieces together for a simple outfit. The key is to mix in high and low pieces for a polished finish. Simple, structured jeans paired with leather booties and a long sleeve, white tee are an easy combination, but not always an obvious one. A clean look lets your accessories really stand out! Plus, it helps keep the focus on the sleek black coat—a wardrobe staple!
That’s all for today folks! Let me know your favorite, easy winter outfit in the comments below!
